bitter glass

I’m joining in with Song Lyric Sunday after not doing it for a while!

Today’s theme is glass

My song choice is Bitter Glass by Feeder.

This song is an old favourite of mine – enjoy!

The thought of never knowing, could kill me just the same
The solitary blossom, the mind is of a friend

What are you saying, you’ve got nothing to live for
You’re tired and broken, you just can’t free yourself

And all the words we’ve spoken, are buried in the sand
The ruptured and the broken, that taste of bitter glass

What are you saying, you’ve got nothing to live for
You’re tired and broken, you just can’t free yourself
What are you saying, it’s just a part of rejection
Pulling you deeper, you just can’t free yourself

Your voluntary loving, apologies have passed and come around again
The fragments of a reason, the taste of bitter glass

So what are you saying, you’ve got nothing to live for
You’re tired and broken, you just can’t free yourself
What are you saying, it’s just a part of rejection
Pulling you deeper, you just can’t free yourself

  1. the song is nice in beat – but the lyrics are kind of dark – not sure if it was meant that way –

    1. I love the beat and tempo increase towards the end. I used to play this song repeatedly when I was younger…but it is quite dark. I being the song is about their drummer who tragically committed suicide. I left that out of the post just in case it would be triggery for anyone.

      1. yeah 0 that could be a trigger – but whew – I would not want those lyrics going into my mind again and again – the power of words impacts some more than others and I kind of feel a spirit of depression with it.
but the tempo and beat was so nice –

      2. I was in a dark period of my own back then, most of the songs I listened to had the same vibe. It is one of those songs that leaves you feeling sad when you’ve heard it. I haven’t played it in years, it just came to mind today.

I think one of the things that drew me to this song was the beat. I have to like how a song sounds before I actually listen to the lyrics, so often I like a song and I’m hit by the meaning much later!

      3. well just be very careful with what you allow into your soul and psyche (and I say that with all respect)
and little story – back in 1991 – I bought a mixed CD of an 80’s band I liked.
I felt led to toss it – not even give it away – just toss it.
and then in 2006 I saw an interview with that band and they said what a dark time they had while making that CD and they even did weird shit (like trance stuff) to make it – and well I am not getting preachy – but I beleive God revealed that to me and I think we all need to really watch the messages we allow into our minds and soul – the little things do add up –
        – well I know you knwo this because you were even ever so mindful of not having a trigger here –
and I guess I just feel life is short and can be so hard at times – so let’s do all we can to have positivity – or at least words that give life and maybe edify (as opposed to tear down or stain – or just bring down, ya know) —
peace to you and thanks for comment sharing – it was fun

      4. I agree, one has to be careful what they listen to and consume. I’m definitely a very intuitive person. I’m picky about the ‘deeper’ songs I listen to for sure.

I agree about being positive for sure, although, I think being reminded that sometimes life is hard and that people struggle isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It allows us to have empathy. I do see your point, though. I do think that negative energy is a real thing that should be avoided at all costs!

      5. I agree – it allows us to develop empathy – but I am sure as you know – our personal affect can be tapped – drained – or primed –
and sometimes heaviness, and sadness, can impact the brain and a trickle turns into a faucet – a running feeling of despair.
        the opposite is true –
we can send more uplifting messages and it directly impacts mood.

and good point about avoiding the negative energy – sounds like you have a lot of wisdom and real-life experience.
and side note – i am not suggesting pollyanna thinking or too much positivity – but I am saying we need to guard out affect like a treasured gem because it impacts health so much
